Why Are Bees So Important to the Environment?

The role of bees in maintaining stable and healthy ecosystems are often overlooked. In fact, these small insects serve great roles in being the pollinators of ecosystems – organisms that transport pollen from one plant to the stigma of another, enabling plants to reproduce sexually and the thriving of plants in an ecosystem.

Bees are important to the environment because without them performing their pollinator roles, plants would not be able to reproduce and produce more offsprings. This means that the vegetation coverage in the region will likely decrease. This further reduces the amount of natural habitats available for wildlife and also the amount of resources – medicine and fuel – us humans can sustainable acquire from the environment.

Despite bees being very important to the environment, human activity has still been casting harm upon bee activities. By causing fragmentation of natural habitats – constructing a road in the middle of a forest and separating the natural landscape into two sections – we limit the range of activity of bees and stop them from performing their pollinator roles to the maximum capacity.

Thus, we should understand the consequences of our actions and how it can threat the activity of important creatures such as bees.
