What is Ecotourism? Sustainable Travel Explained

Ecotourism is newly rising industry that attempts to achieve a balance between maintaining biodiversity, respecting indigenous rights, and exploiting some commercial value of natural sceneries.

While tourists are introduced to these natural sites, their tour trips evolve around the topic of appreciating the nature they see, learning about local biodiversity, and respecting the native culture here. Tours are designed to have low carbon footprint and low levels of disturbance to the wildlife habitats and indigenous communities that are around.

Moreover, the fact that money is made off of the beauty of the natural sceneries further incentivizes managing teams to try their best in preserving the natural appearance of the site and reduce the impact of factors such as pollution and resource extraction on the health of the local ecosystem.

Ecotourism is also able to provide the indigenous communities with an income by encouraging education upon their native culture and the trying out of their native foods and culture.
