What is Carbon Footprint and How Can You Reduce Yours?

Carbon footprint refers to the amount of land required to assimilate or sequester all the carbon that an individual or a community produces. The larger the carbon footprint of an individual, the more daily carbon emissions they produce.

There are a number of ways to reduce one’s carbon footprint.

Firstly, you can change your diet from a meat-based one to one that is well-balanced between meat and vegetables. Doing this helps lower the carbon required to produce your meals. Many carbon is produced during the preparation of meat given that many energy is required to maintain the facilities that animals are raised in and animal products get prepared in. On the other hand, a plant-based diet produces less carbon.

Secondly, you could use more of public transport or other greener transportation methods such as biking or walking when you want to go outside. Instead of using automobiles, such ways of transport can help reduce your carbon footprint as you either make less or no emissions during your daily commuting time.

Thirdly, you can try to cut your energy use in your home. Remember to turn of the lights and air condition when you don’t need them. You may even consider switching to renewable energy. For example, you can get a solar panel company to install two solar panels on the top of your ceiling to help provide your with a portion of your daily energy need. This reduces your use of fossil fuels and thus reduces your carbon footprint.
