Sustainable Packaging: How to Reduce Waste

Sustainable packaging is crucial to helping the development of environmental sustainability along with economic growth in our rapidly commercializing world today. Many firms today treat packaging as a way they establish their brand image and put lots of efforts into designing complicated and sometimes material-consuming packages in order to promote sales of their products.

Yet, such an approach to packaging can generate many wastes and cause the accumulation of these materials in landfills, which further pollute the environment. Small products such as electronics and jewelry can be sold in complicated packaging that involves many layers and components. While the products can be presented nicely and transported safely in these packaging, the packaging proves unnecessary most of the time.

In order to make packaging sustainable, there are two aspects in which we can improve. First, we should reduce the overall amount of packaging we use. Products can be wrapped in simple layers of materials that prevent them from being broken during the process of transportation or provide the basic information needed to use the product. Second, we should try to use biodegradable materials that do not cause pollution when we package our products. An example of this may include paper cardboards.
