Microplastics: Tiny Pollutants with a Big Impact

Microplastics are having a great environmental impact on the planet. Created via the weathering and degradation of larger plastic items such as plastic bags or other plastic products, microplastics refer to small plastic particles that permeate every corner of an environment polluted with it.

Unlike larger plastic products, microplastics are hard to collect and retract from the environment. Yet, they are just as devastating for the environment and still a toxic substance. The difficulty of dealing with microplastic pollution is that they consistently create harm to the environment but are hard to collect.

Recently, there has been progress in tackling microplastic pollution. There has been advanced filtering technology being applied to sea water, and it is said that microplastic particles can be collected with these technologies. However, it is still important to remember that the fundamental source of microplastics comes from the irresponsible disposal and consumption of plastic products on our end. It is only when we start to regulate our use of plastics that the issue will be completely resolved.
