How Renewable Energy is Changing the World

Renewable energy sources and gaining increased attention and preference over traditional fossil fuel energy today. This is not only because of their environmental benefits, but also because of several other reasons.

Firstly, renewable energy reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere. The combustion of fossil fuels inevitably produces many carbon emissions that enhance the greenhouse effect and aggravate the global climate crisis. However, renewable sources are able to supply people with the same energy needs without having to pollute the environment and increase global temperature.

Secondly, renewable energy fosters energy independence. Countries such as Ethiopia has gained increased energy security and independence by exploiting renewable energy sources such as hydroelectric power via building the GERD dam on the Nile river. In this way, renewable energy has provided a new approach in which countries short of energy supply can gain enough electricity for its citizens.

Thirdly, renewable energy incentivizes innovation and creates more jobs. Currently, many jobs are created when people are hired to maintain wind turbines, install solar panels at people’s homes, manage tourist sites at hydroelectric dams, and many more. This means that renewable energy has not been a burden to the economy but has in turn generated many new possibilities for development.
