Climate Refugees: The Growing Crisis of Displacement
Climate refugees are an emerging problem under the context of global warming. Intense weather caused by this global phenomenon has displaced many people, put them in difficult living conditions far away from their home, and deprived them access to their original properties and memories.
For example, people in Bangladesh are becoming climate refugees under the impact of floods caused by climate change. People across Bangladesh are migrating towards their capital Dhaka due to how their homes are destroyed by floods caused by climate change. Not to mention the hardship they experienced just to leave their homes behind and on the arduous journey to the capital, they have suffered a lot just to live in the crowded and non-sanitized city slums of Dhaka.
Families squeeze themselves in 1-2 rooms without any windows or natural lighting, and people live along streets with blocked or flooded sewage systems that do not work property. Electricity supply is unstable, and people have to continue working for low-paid jobs under high temperatures just to afford a living.
Thus, climate refugees are becoming an increasingly devastating problem under the context of global warming, and this problem deserves more attention.
