Can Technology Save the Planet from Climate Change?

As the world faces more and more threats from climate change, many people look to advanced technology for taking the lead in saving us from climate change. Indeed, technology can play a crucial role in helping us resolve climate change.

For example, many renewable sources of energy we look to today as hopeful alternatives of fossil fuels are results of technological advancements. Technology has allowed us to build hydroelectric dams that withstand the pressure of great water storage and converts flowing water into electricity, design solar panels that convert light into power, and build structures such as wind turbines that convert wind into electricity. Without technology, all of this couldn’t have been possible.

Other than in the energy sector, technology has also done us many good in reducing emissions in other industries such as transportation and manufacturing. Electric vehicles are a product of technological advancement and allows us to go out on an automobile that no longer makes carbon emissions. Catalytic converters reduce the emissions created at manufacturing factories, reducing emissions in the manufacturing industry as well.

While it is true that technology has a crucial role in helping to resolve climate change, we must admit that climate change can be more comprehensively solved if combined with policymaking and other practices.
